Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding for Video Dct Blocks Part Ii — Practical Scheme

چکیده
This paper (for Part I, see [8]) proposes a new context-based adaptive variable length coding scheme (CBAVLC) for video DCT blocks, aiming to maximize the achievable coding efficiency under acceptable complexity in practical video coding. CBAVLC is designed by following the theoretically optimal approach described in Part I. The proposed context modeling in CBAVLC is domain knowledge drove, which fully explores the observed domain properties of DCT blocks for high efficiency. The adaptive coding in CBAVLC uses Golomb-Rice codes and Elementary Golomb codes. The adaptation rules come from the famous LOCO-I algorithm, which are approximations of theoretically optimal ones. The experimental results show that on the test videos CBAVLC significantly improves coding efficiency relative to 2D-VLC, and compared to CAVLC a few coding efficiency gains are also obtained.

The most recent video coding standard H.264 has adopted context-based adaptive variable-length coding (CAVLC) as the entropy coding tool in the baseline profile. By combining an adaptive variable-length coding technique with context modeling, we can achieve a high degree of redundancy reduction. However, CAVLC in H.264 has a weakness that the correct prediction rate of the variable-length codin...
متن کاملWatermarking in H.264/AVC Compressed Domain Using CAVLC
A new real-time watermarking technique based on H.264/AVC video standard is proposed. The algorithm works in the compressed domain by embedding watermark bits into quantized DCT coefficients of 4×4 blocks of the I-frame during the Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding (CAVLC) process. CAVLC offers a lower computational complexity which is efficient to the algorithm. During watermark ext...
